Walled City is proud to present Urban Landscape Specialist, a solo show featuring the work of Los Angeles based artist, Tiki Jay One.  Tiki Jay has been working in a variety of traditional graffiti media for many years, most recently using his trained and steady hand to create some of the finest stencils that Los Angeles has ever seen.

For his exhibition at Walled City, Tiki Jay One will be presenting a survey of works, showcasing the quality and aesthetics that he has brought to the medium.  He will also be creating a large scale, site specific work, featuring a series of large, self-portrait stencils, of the artist at work.  By referencing the action of creation, he puts the viewer, who is ordinarily distanced from the action of creation of street art, into his perspective of the moment of creation.  The mystery of that creation is washed aside as it is replaced by the reality of the artist as ladder-climber, glue-roller and worker.

Artist's Statement - “By not limiting oneself to any single medium one is left with an open mind and room for growth.  Being an artist means taking risks, this manifests itself in the process by which urban landscaping is conducted.  The urban landscapist risks physical injury, and personal freedom in the line of duty.   Most believe there is an art war on the urban streets, but I disagree.   The city is an urban gallery for creating and displaying art without the need of traditional Western-European standards of art.  The end result should be work untouched by the “buff” due to the public acceptance gained by the artist’s efforts.”
