Walled City
Gallery was pleased to exhibit
cut on the
dotted line…,a
showcase of five artists doing amazing work using stencils. The is a lot
of excellent stencil work being done in Los Angeles right now, and these
five artists represent a wide range of approaches, techniques and
aesthetics. Victor Gastelum is a graphic designer who makes awesome multi
part stencils, often using Southern California’s low rider culture as a
starting off point. Craig Ibarra transforms photographs of Punk Rock
icons with amazing care and detail, capturing the essence of these sonic
heroes. Lena Orlando will be creating a site specific, full scale stencil
of her car, a 17’ x 6’ monument of cut cardboard and Krylon. Tiki Jay One
has been creating gorgeous multi stencil pieces for some time now, his
large scale images of animals and beautiful girls are raising the bar for
stencil artists all over town, inspiring much envy and admiration. Zero
X, AKA artist Mark Farina, takes a more painterly approach to stencils,
using them as elements in his paintings, creating hard edges in the midst
of texture and brushstroke.
