hungry ghost

Walled City Gallery is pleased to present hungry ghost, an exhibition of original artwork by Edith Abeyta and Rob Abeyta, featuring a statement/poem by Charlene Roth.  The hungry ghost is a religious and spiritual concept that is almost universal, but is most commonly associated with Buddhism.  A hungry spirit that is, via some accident of form, unable to satiate its hunger, it is often used as a metaphor for material or physical want.

Edith will be presenting an installation of fiber works and stuffed shapes, connected by string and featuring drawings on muslin and stuffed flames.  Rob will be creating a site specific painting on the walls of the gallery, of a hungry ghost expelling one hundred small framed works from its mouth.  Charlene will be transcribing her statement/poem for the show (see attached) onto the walls of the gallery itself in faint pencil.  Together these three artists will create an environment where the interplay of ideas related to the hungry ghost concept can integrate into a seamless whole.
