Works by Plasticfucker

Working under the pseudonym Plasticfucker, Doug Murphy has established himself as a relentless pop culture manipulator and multiples revivalist.  The clean, minimalist forms of LEGO heads and figures become a mold in which Plasticfucker forces the faces and bodies of an ever expanding pantheon of pop icons. Making works that drip with saccharine colours and simple shapes that reduce the famous and infamous to their most basic visual identifiers, his fixation surges forth with a relentless mercantile fury, reflective of his chosen subjects.

For his exhibition at Walled City, Plasticfucker exhibited an array of LEGO icon heads, as well as larger, narrative works and a series of hand painted, large scale LEGO figure sculptures.

Plasticfucker’s work has been featured in galleries such as Nucleus Gallery, Dirt, the Patricia Correia Gallery, Inshallah, Don O’Meleveny Gallery, Crewest and many other spaces in Los Angeles. Plasticfucker’s work has also been featured in the L.A. Times, L.A. Weekly, Downtown News, as well as numerous smaller publications and websites. Original artwork by Plasticfucker has been featured on the covers of BPM and Jointz magazines, as well.
